YOUNG and enterprising people in Brunei Darussalam who have displayed outstanding business planning received recognition yesterday during a ceremony for the 10th LiveWIRE Brunei Business Awards, at the Royal Brunei Recreational Club.
Presenting awards to the winners was the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar. Also present was Deputy Managing Director of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd, Awang Haji Kamaludin Bungsu.
From a total of 67 entries, 44 finalists were short-listed for the competition’s various categories.
The winner for Lower Secondary category (Year 7, 8 and 9) went to Chung Hwa Middle School BSB for their company, Chubees Co, which offers a variety of customised mobile phone accessories, personalised pouches, caps and stationery. Abereene Lim, Ang Woan Shiuan, Nuryasneena, Alai Syafina and Ling Roo Fan all expressed their surprise at winning the category and stated their hope to further develop their successful project. Second place went to St Andrew’s School with its Royale Bees Company.
For the Upper Secondary category (Year 10 and 11), Menglait Secondary School came in first place followed by Sayyidina Hussain Secondary School in second and St Andrew’s School in third.
Meanwhile, Meragang Sixth Form Centre dominated the Pre-University Lower and Upper 6 category by winning the top three prizes.
In the Tertiary: Vocational and Technical category, Nakhoda Ragam Vocational School finished in first place followed by Wasan Vocation School in second and third place.
The category for Higher Institutions saw the Brunei Darussalam Business School taking the top three prizes.
Abduyibah Catering won the LiveWIRE Programme Participant category, while SAB Educational Services took second place, with third place going to Ay Miracle Motorsport.
The Enterprise category for the LiveWIRE Business Start-Up, for businesses that have been in operation between six months to three years, saw Yazid Ar-Ramadhan Enterprise receive the consolation prize. The award for outstanding business plan went to Nakhoda Ragam Vocational School
A new category – The Most Innovative Enterprise – went to RAB Global Green with the award being received by Iffah Billah binti Haji Junaidi, who in an interview revealed that RAB Global Green, which is a joint venture company between China and Taiwan, is expected to complete a green factory in Brunei Darussalam by the end of the year to export eco-friendly fire extinguishers overseas. She expressed her gratitude to LiveWIRE Brunei, saying that she was surprised by the win.
The Most Sustainable Enterprising award went to AEJ Enterprise, which was received by Amirul Elfri bin Haji Johan. Adrian Tan of Printmartz Advertising took home the Most Progressive Achiever award.
The last prize of the day, the Most Outstanding Enterprising award, went to Jocon Contractor and was received by Johari bin Brahim.
