Upper Primary Science Challenge  2025

The annual Upper Primary Science Challenge took place on 15th April 2025 in the Dato Ong Kim Kee Hall. As with every year, three students were selected from each class to form teams representing their respective Sports Houses. A total of thirty-six students toom part in this much-anticipated event.

Each year group tackled a unique set of science and engineering-based challenges:
1) Year 4 students competed in the Magnetic Car Race and attempted to build a pyramid using only rubber bands and plastic cups — a test of balance, patience, and teamwork.

2)  Year 5 students took on the challenge of constructing a functional catapult and building a rocket using plastic straws and connectors. It was a fantastic display of creativity and enthusiasm as students explored basic concepts of propulsion and mechanics.

3)  Year 6 students showcased their skills in two more complex activities: constructing a windmill and participating in the crowd-favourite Egg Drop Challenge. Despite their best efforts and some truly inventive designs, none of the eggs survived the 20-foot drop — drawing gasps and laughter from the audience.

The primary aim of the Science Challenge is to encourage students to think critically, apply scientific principles, and work collaboratively to solve problems in fun and engaging ways.

Macdougall House emerged as the champion of this year’s Science Challenge, displaying strong teamwork and innovation. In second and third place respectively were Danson and Hollis House. All participants received certificates and prizes in recognition of their effort and enthusiasm.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all teachers who helped plan and run the event. Special appreciation is extended to Mr Wong Tee Sen, Head of Upper Primary Section, for his constant support and encouragement.
