3rd SASMUN 2025: Youth for a Sustainable Future – Shaping Cities, Transforming Communities (SDG 11)

A highly anticipated event, the 3rd St. Andrew’s School Model United Nations (SASMUN) 2025 conference brought together upper secondary students for a dynamic and immersive experience from the 13 January to 13 February. This conference allowed students to step into the shoes of diplomats, representing different countries in a simulation of the real United Nations proceedings.

This year’s conference revolved around the theme ‘Youth for a Sustainable Future’, based on SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. With this guiding principle, delegates explored pressing urban and environmental challenges, proposing solutions to build more resilient and inclusive societies.

About ninety students were divided into three key committees—Human Rights, Environment, Economic & Social Committees, where they were challenged to think critically, work independently and collaborate as a team. Throughout the sessions, participants were guided by experienced Chairs and Vice-chairs, many of whom were Saint Andrew’s alumni and past SASMUN delegates.

The 3rd SAS MUN conference concluded with the General Assembly on February 13 with a major milestone, passing two crucial resolutions. The first resolution, from the Human Rights Committee, addressed the need to ensure the right to housing in rapidly urbanizing areas, with Yong Kai Ting (11G), Delegate of USA as the main submitter. The second resolution, from the Economic & Social Committee, focused on the need to foster circular economies to reduce urban waste, was submitted by Raniya A’yunni binti Md Hilmey (10R), Delegate of Singapore.

The 3rd SAS MUN 2025 is a testament to St. Andrew’s School’s commitment to fostering an environment of learning, collaboration and global awareness while serving as a valuable platform for our youth to become confident public speakers ready to make an impact on the world.
