4th St. Andrew's School Model United Nations Conference 2026
The 4th SASMUN was held from 12 January to 12 February 2026. Inspired by SDG 14: Life Below Water, the theme was ‘Youth Championing the Future of Our Waters’. Eighty-two delegates debated critical maritime challenges affecting our oceans, coastal communities, and food security, bringing research, negotiation, and diplomacy to life.
The conference was led by four Year 11 students, Amelia Binoy Valiyakunnel, Noel Lim Quee Fon, Hritika Sohal and Preet Lalwani, who were appointed as Secretaries- General.
This year, in making SASMUN a truly student-led conference, a twenty-three-member Student Steering Committee took charge of logistics alongside the Secretaries-General.
The secretariat, guided by Mr Richard and Mrs Celia worked for a fortnight in November 2025 to select and frame topics, prepare day-to-day schedules, presentations, and shape the themes for committee sessions. English department teachers facilitated workshops for the secretariat and the delegates.
Three resolutions were presented at the General Assembly, and after careful deliberation, two were adopted with the support of a two-thirds majority of the member states present. The Human Rights Committee’s resolution on “The Need to Mitigate Ocean Pollution to Safeguard Human Security and Prevent the Displacement of Coastal Populations” was successfully passed. Likewise, the Economic and Social Committee’s resolution on “The Need to Address Illegal Maritime Activities to Safeguard Global Food Security and Promote Development in Coastal Regions” also secured the required majority and was adopted.
Guest of honour, Madam Tan, presented awards to the outstanding secretaries -generals and delegates during the closing ceremony of SASMUN 2026 on 12 February.
