In 2014, our students took part in various quiz and competitions organized by government departments and various organisations, locally as well as overseas, and won many prizes, certificates and awards.

12. The Asean Plus Three Story Telling Competition

It was organized by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka and the competitiors were the winners from the SR Mari Bercerita competition (Malay Story –Telling). The winners (one male and 1 female) will represent Brunei in the competiton hosted by Brunei in March 2015.

15. Rotary Best Teacher Award 2013

Mdm Stella Low was nominated by the school and awarded by Rotary Club of Brunei for the Best Teacher Award 2013. She joined the school on 1 Sept 1992 and was appointed as the HoS (LP) since April 1995. She has been with the school for 22 years at the Primary level.

17. 44 PSR pupils who obtained 5As received the Pelajar Cemerlang Awards from MoE on 21 May 2014 at UBD.

18. Anugerah Pelajar Cemerlang dalam Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Melayu dan Kesusasteraan Melayu bagi Peringkat “O” 2013

Dayang Qudsiyah binti Hj Tassim of Yr 11G, 2013 was selected by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka to receive the award at ICC in July 2014. She obtained an A* in her Bahasa Melayu paper in the GCE “O” Level exam.

19. DUX of the School

Rishikah Reggina Andrew of Yr 11G was selected as the DUX of the School 2014. She is the President of the Student Council. She is a very pleasant, conscientious pupil with leadership qualities. She is also very responsible, organized and optimistic.
She is an academically well rounded pupil who never ceases to strive for excellence.
She has a good command of the English Language. She won a gold medal in the NSW English Competition in 2014. She participates in debates, and in school and interschool activities. She was the Best Speaker in the 7th BD Interschool English Junior Debate 2013 and the team was the champion for the year.

20. Rotary Best Student GCE “O” Level 2013

Chong Tze Wei was selected as the best GCE “O” level student by Rotary Club and she received a certificate, a gift and a cash award of $200 on 27 April at Terrace Hotel.

24. Principal ‘s Special Recognition Award

Andrew Wong Ling Yung of Yr 11E was given the Special Recognition Award by the Principal for his services and efforts in carrying out his duty as the Vice President of the Student Council.

25. Hwa Chong International School Scholarship

Suveend Rao Ranga Rao of Yr 11E was awarded the scholarship to continue his studies (2 years) in IB course at Hwa Chong International School in Singapore. The scholarship covers his school fees, food, accommodation and laundry. He was one of the five students (3 from CHMS and 1 from SGS) from Brunei. He has to learn basic Mandarin at Hwa Chong – one of the requirements by the school.

27. Sesi Program Gifted Education

Two of our students are in the said program since 2011. Dk Erfa Affifah attended the 5th ACGS Teachers Workshop and Student Camp for the Gifted in Science held in Nacka, Sweden from 25 January till 1 February, 2014.

6.10 A parent, Mrs Lim, sponsored Lim Wei Qin (Yr 2R, 2014) for 2015 whole year’s school fees ($1,680) + $10 surcharge.

7. SPORTS & GAMES

7.1 Annual Cross-Country

It was successfully held on Thursday morning, 13 March at Bukit Shahbandar. Mr Nelson Chong from the School Board was the Guest-of-Honour. The winning house was Cornwall House.

7.2 Annual Sports Meet

7.2.1 The 43rd Annual Sports Meet was successfully held on Sunday 6 April at Padang Kebajikan, Berakas from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Our Guest-of-Honour was Mr Sheikh Jamaluddin (ex-SAS student).

7.2.2 Hollis House emerged as the champion House, after a lapse of 24 years. Christine Wong Vun San (Yr 9Y) from Cornwall House was crowned as the Best Athlete. The only record broken was from Renee Lee Rui En (Yr 6Y) from Cornwall Housel House for the 100 M Girls Division A.

7.2.3 4x100m for men teachers and 4x50m for lady teachers were introduced this year.

7.2.4 This year, the camera and video technology was introduced for finishing judge.

7.2.5 The dress code imposed by the Ministry of Education was followed – Long or short pants with spandex for boys and long pants for girls. Muslim girls wore tudong.

7.3 Brunei Zone 1 Interschool Junior Athletics Meet 2014

It was held on Sunday, 11 May 2014 at Kompleks Sukan, Berakas. A total of 15 schools took part. Our school was the 1st runner-up with a total of 2 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze. Renee Li Rui En was named as the Best Female Athlete.

Muhd Khoirunnaas bin Khalid and Ak Muhd Hazmi bin Pg Salleh (both from Yr 8R) were chosen by MSSSBD (Majlis Sekolah-Sekolah Sukan Brunei Darussalam) to represent Brunei in the U-15 Football.

7.9 U-15 Basketball (B) – JIS League

Our U-15 Basketball boys’ team was the 1st runner-up in the JIS league played in April, 2014.

8. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES (CCA)

8.1 There are 24 clubs in the school. All students must join at least one CCA club. All Yr 7 students must join 1 uniform group – Police Cadets, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Red Crescent, Boys’ Brigade or Girls’ Brigade.

8.3 Educational Visits

8.3.1 420 pupils from Yr 4, 5 & 6 went on an educational tour with their teachers to Agro-Technology Park on 18 January.

8.3.2 65 students from Yr 11 led by 2 teachers visited the US Education Fair on 17 February at Rizqun Hotel.

8.3.3 The Lower Primary went on an educational visit to Agro-Technology Park in April :
Yr 2 on 2 April, Yr 3 on 16 April, Yr 1 on 19 April respectively led by their teachers.

8.3.4 Mdm Samantha Kuan together with 12 students from Yr 9Y attended the “Sambutan Hari Kajicuaca Sedunia bagi Tahun 2014” at Times Square Shopping Centre on 27 March.

8.3.5 42 students from Yr 9G led by Mr Jesudass and 2 teachers visited the Energy Exhibition held at Bridex on 27 March.

8.3.6 Mrs Sindhu led a group of 20 students from Yr 9 & 10 to the Nursing Exhibition organized by Ministry of Health on 13 May.

8.3.7 Yr 8 students went on educational tours with their teachers : Yr 8G & Yr 8B led by Mrs Simmonds and Mrs Beena on 5/8 and Yr 8R & 8Y led by Mrs Samantha Kuan and Mdm Yvette Chan on 6/8.

8.3.8 Pupils from Kg 3 Marigold led by their Class Teacher, Mrs Rachel, Ms Jane (Principal), Mrs Koo, Ms Patricia Chao, Ms Jewel Tan visited Air Bukit Barun, Tutong on 28 November.

8.3.9 69 Sec students from Yr 9 led by Ms Rosemary Ong, Mrs Neelima, Ckg Md Najib, Ckg Shahrul, Mr Adib and Principal went on a day trip to Labi Longhouse on 8 November @ $60 inclusive of lunch. The tour includes Sg Liang Forestry Reserve, Wasai trekking ( Waterfall), Labi Longhouse, Goat Farm, Rice Farm and Duck Farm.

8.3.10 250+ pupils from Yr 5 went on an educational trip to Times Square on 8, 9 & 11 November respectively. Some of the student learned pizza making at Pasta Mania (with a fee). TIC : Mrs Soh Wai Ling, Mdm Chong Sook Tin, Ms Siti Aminah, Mdm Oh Li Ying & Mrs Maria.

8.3.11 All the Yr 4 & 5 pupils went on a movie day outing on 13 November at Times Square Cineplex. All the Upper Pry teachers were involved.. TIC : Mdm Chong Sook Tin.

8.3.12 The winning team of the “Switch 4 Torrow Challenge” went on an educational trip to Tenaga Suria Brunei and Butra Heidelberg Cement Plant Sdn Bhd. on 20 November. This trip was arranged by STEP Centre. The students were Ibrahim bin Hj Md Yussop, Matthew Ming Han Chong, Su Yee Shien and Vennessa Ling Sing Yee (all from Yr 9G). TIC : Mr Jesudass.

8.4 Good Life Camp

The Good Life Camp for Yr 7 students was held from 22 to 24 January in DOKK Hall @ $20 per student. It was conducted by Mr Nicholas Choo and assisted by the Yr 7 teachers and some volunteers. The objectives of the camp were to prepare students for a good life and to nurture essential skills for successful living – Respect, responsibility, Honesty, Love & Care, Courage and Teamwork.

8.5 Asia Student Leadship Camp

11 Sec students led by Mr Tan Boon Chin and assisted by Mrs Gladys Yee attended the Asia Student Leadership Camp in Singapore from 3 to 8 August. The course fee was $750 per student excluding airfare.

8.6 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) 2014

Lim Hong Shen of Yr 10B (councilor) has been nominated to join the Rotary Youth Leadership Camp which will be held in Kuching from 12 to 15 December 2014. It is an all “expenses paid training”. This year’s RYLA theme is “Unleashing the potential of Future Leaders”.

8.7 Simposium Majlis Imus 2014

20 students from Yr 8 led by Mdm Yvette Chan attended the Simposium Majlis Ilmu 2014 sempena Sambutan Hari Puteraan Kebawah Duli Yang Yaha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam Yang Ke-68 Tahun on 29 October afternoon at ICC. The topic was Innovation in Science.

8.8 Mini Marathon

5 boys and 5 girls from Yr 6 participated in the Mini Marathon which was held on 3 November. TIC were Ckg DK Siti Ra’inah and Mr Jack Salleh.

8.9 School Outreach Program

20 boys and girls from Yr 4 & 5 had training sessions with the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) on 21 October, 10 and 19 November under the School Outreach Program. TIC : Ckg Dk Siti Ra’inah, Ckg Aminur Hazim & Mrs Maria.

8.10 Challenge Fun Carnival

The School Chaplaincy organized the Challenge fun games and values added activities for the Yr 6 pupils in the school compound from 5 to 6 November afternoon. All the Yr 6 teachers were involved and the responses were encouraging. 75 Yr 6 pupils joined the carnival.

8.11 Brunei Robotics Olympiad (BRO) 2014

2 teams (1 Sec & 1 Pry) participated in the Open Category held at Airport Mall on 27 Sept.

8.12 Amazing Race

4 students namely Tiffany Wong Shing Yi (Y9Y), Joel Balang (Y9B), Khoo Chuin Ming (Y1B) and Chong Kar Yi (Y11Y) represented the school for Catoegory B (Combined Science + Maths) in the Amazing Race organized by SM Menglait, Gadong at Agro Tech Park on 20 April. It was held in conjunction with Maths & Science month for Cluster 1 schools.

8.13 Fire Marshall Course

18 councillors, 4 monitors plus Mr Tan Boon Chin and Mr Alinoor attended a 3-days Fire Marshall Course at the Balai Bomba from 22 to 24 September. They were given certificates upon completion of the course.

8.14 Science Camp 2014

Wesley Onn Wei Rong Of Yr 7R will join the OGDC’s Science of Flight Camp 2014 from 1st to 3rd December 2014.

8.15 Eco-Challenge 2014

This was an on-line game on Water Sustainability played internationally (introduced from Singapore). It was played on 10 April from 1 pm to 9 pm in the school’s computer Lab. 23 teams (2 students per team) took part and teachers took turns to supervise. TIC was Mr Jesudass.

8.16 Royale BEES Company – SME Promotion

11 BEES students (9 from Yr 9 and 2 from Yr 10) took part in the Small Medium Enterprise Promotion Project. They set up a small stall at the Indoor Stadium from 30 May to 1 June from 9 am to 4 pm, taking turns to man the stall. TIC were Mrs Shama, Mrs Jane Huong and Ms Maxie.

8.17 Humanities Week

The Humanities Department organized the Humanities Week from 11 August to 16 August as follows :
11/8 – quiz (3 subjects compiled together : History, Geography & Commerce) for Yr 9, 10 & 11 .
12/8 – Role Play (History) for Yr 9 & 10.
13/8 – Exhibition (Social Studies & BAT) for Yr 7 & 8.
16/8 BAT Competition (baking of cupcakes/cookies) for Yr7 & (making of products) for Yr8.

8.18 Drama Workshop

Yr 9 to 11 students attended an hour’s workshop organized by Origin Films Sdn Bhd on 28 June. The aim of the workshop was not only to support local talent but to bring out the potential artistic skills of the students and hopefully one day to achieve international standards of production work.

8.19 National Assessment of Students Competencies (NASC)

NASC is a research test conducted by the Department of Planning, Development & Research, MoE. The result from the research assessment will be used to benchmark the level of Competencies in English and Mathematics. The people who were involved were :

8.23 Teachers’ Retreat

The teachers’ Retreat, organized by the Welfare Dept, was successfully held from 12 to 15 Sept for all the teachers and staff of the school. It consisted of a team event, 2 talks, a movie and a dinner.

9. CELEBRATIONS

9.1 HM The Sultan’s Birthday

9.1.1 HM”s Birthday celebration was postponed to 14 August due to the Puasa period. Yr 3 pupils were involved in the line-up.

9.1.2 The “Bersama Rakyat” was postponed to 24 August. We were represented by 20 Yr 4 students in the performance.

9.2 30th National Day Celebration

9.2.1 National Day Celebration at school level was held on 27 February. The Guest-of-honour was Dr Hj Ampuan Brahim bin Ampuan Hj Tengah, Ahli Urus Setia Majlis Tertinggi Melayu Islam Beraja dan Pengarah Akademi Pengajian Brunei, UBD.

9.2.2 25 Muslim students from Yr 11B & Yr 11Y led by their Ugama Teachers, Cikgu Shahrul Anuar, Cikgu Rozaidah & Cikgu Rohaidah attended the Majlis Penutup Khatam Al- Quran 30 Kali Sempena Sambutan Ulang Tahun Harti kebangsaan Negara Brunei Darussaam – male students at Jame ‘Asr Hassanal Bolkiah, Kiarong and female students at Masjid Omar Ali Saifuddien, BSB on 25 February.

9.2.3 300 students from Yr 7 & 8 represented the school in the HUMAN LED group performance.

9.2.4 200 students from Yr 9G & B, Yr 10 and students councilors represented the school in the Core group and March Past.

9.2.5 70 students from Yr 9 and student councilors represented the school in the “Kerusi” group.

9.2.6 Program “Belia Cinta Tanah Air” kali-9, Tahun 2014 organised by Jabatan Belia dan Sukan was held on 19 February 2014. A group of 30 orang belia from the 4 districts” bringing with them the national flags, started at 8 1m from Pusat Belia to Indoor Stadium, stopping at 8 schools on their way. Our school was the 2nd school along their way. Our Yr 11 and Yr 6 students lined up along the carpark to wait for their arrival. The National Anthem was sang together after which they were on their way again.

9.3 Teachers’ Day

9.3.1 The 19th Teachers’ Day Celebration for the National Level was celebrated on Thursday, 5 November, 2009 at ICC. The Principal attended the function. The day was declared a public holiday for all the schools.

9.3.2 Teachers’ Day was celebrated in the school on a small scale this year on 1 October, 2009. The teachers and staff were later treated to high-tea at a restaurant on 7 October.

9.4 Yr 11 Graduation Ceremony

The Yr 11 Graduation Ceremony was held on 20 November, 2014 in the DOKK Hall for all the Yr 11 students. Rev Johnny Chin was the Guest-of-Honour. All parents of Yr 11 were invited.

9.5 Yr 6 Graduation Ceremony

The Yr 6 Graduation Ceremony was held on 18 November, 2014 in the DOKK Hall. All parents of the Yr 6 students were invited to attend. The Guest-of-Honour was Mr Stephen Ong.

9.6 Anniversary of 100 Years Education in Brunei

9.6.1 All the Muslim teachers and students from Yr 4 to Yr 11 were asked to attend Ratib Al-atas prayer in DOKK Hall on 11 January 2014 in conjunction to 100 years of education in Brunei Darussalam from 7.15 am to 8.15 am. It was held simultaneously in all the schools throughout the country.

9.6.2 The Secondary teachers and Principal plus two invited guests from CDD went on a brisk walk at Jastra Park on 1 May in conjunction with the celebration of 100 years formal education in Brunei by the Ministry of Education.

9.7 Family Day/Environmental Day

The school celebrated Family Day/Environmental Day on 12 June, the lst day of the 2nd term. Some parents from the Primary section donated their services or sponsored cash for the occasion. The 4 sections (Kg/LP/UP/Sec) celebrated that day separately, each with their program.

10. TALKS/WORKSHOPS & VISITS

10.1 25 teachers attended the 5 hours Counselling Workshop for teachers by Mr Glenn Lim on 31 March and 1 April. They each received a certificate of Attendance.

10.2 Mr Glenn Lim gave two motivational talks to the Yr 6 and Yr 8 students respectively on 2 April in DOKK Hall.

10.3 Ms Mei Lin Chong was the invited speaker for the Teachers’ Retreat from 12 – 15 September and parenting talk (15 September night). A workshop was also held with the SMT and HoD in the afternoon on 15 September.

10.4 Representatives from Brunei Darussalam Technical and Vocational Council BDTVEC) gave a Tech Voc Educational Talk to the Yr 11 students on 11 March.

10.5 Representatives from Riam College, Miri gave a talk to the Yr 11 students on 12 March.

10.6 Mr Jesudass and Ms Siti Aminah conducted a robotics workshop for the 20 students (11 from UP & 9 from Sec) @ $20 during the 1st term holiday on 14 & 15 March in the school.

10.7 Mdm Yvette Chan and 4 students from Yr 11G attended a leadership talk by Ms Pai Pei See, CEO of SCB at UBD on 7 May.

10.8 L & P Consultant Services organized an educational exhibition in the DOKK Hall on 22 April. Top universities and colleges were invited to talk to our Yr 10 and Yr 11 students.

10.9 An ex-student, Mr Shavez, gave an audio visual presentation on Brunei’s animal world to the present students in the DOKK Hall during the combined assembly on 10 March.

11. CHARITABLE & HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE

11.1 Donations /Sponsorship from Parents & Well-wishers

11.1.1 Siti Rauufah bte Hj Omarali, an ex-student and now director of Sponsorship of Society for Community Outreach & Training (SCOT), has chosen St Andrew’s School as one of the ten recipients to receive the SMART Boards and projectors’ donation. 6 SMART Boards and 3 projectors have already been delivered to the school on 13 May.

11.1.2 Fabrica (through PTA) donated curtains (already sewn) to all the primary classrooms, Kindergarten and Primary AVA room in May.

11.1.3 Samima Book Sdn Bhd (through PTA) donated a year’s white board marker pens to the whole school.

11.1.4 Dr Hilda Ho donated a sum of $5,000 to the school for the purchase of toys and story books for the Kindergaten library and teaching aids for the Lower Primary.

11.2 Donations – Humanitarian Funds

11.2.1 Mdm Tay Chin Poh and family donated an amount $500 to the school during the demise of her father in August 2014..

11.2.2. Staff from the school donated an amount $216 for the flood and landslide victims in Brunei (for those who are working under the Ministry of Education and students).

11.2.3 Students and staff donated an amount of $1,795.20 for the Disaster Fund for the Philippines.

11.2.4 Students and teachers in the school donated a sum of $1,044.85 to a fire victim from Sekolah Riverside, Masim .

12. PTA – PARENT -TEACHER ASSOCIATION

12.1. The PTA Annual General Meeting was held on 19 January in the DOKK Hall.

12.3 A day w/o uniform was held on 9 August by PTA for students in the school from Kg to Yr 11. The response from the students was good and most students followed the dress code set down by PTA. This fund raising activity was meant to assist the school with educational facilities.

12.4 The SAS-PTA Annual Dinner was held on 2 March at Dynasty Restaurant. All the BoG members and the SMT were invited for the event.

12.5 The PTA Entrepreneurship Fair was held on 8 March.

12.6 PTA helped to equip all the classrooms with 2 whiteboards each.

12.7 PTA sponsored 3 sets of computer + projectors & projector screens. They were set up in the Mandarin Room, Art Room and Pry CV Room.

13. PARENTS’ DAY

Parents’ Day was held on 4 July. 733 appointments were made (Sec – 398, UP – 117 & LP – 218). Parents came with their children to meet the class teachers and collect the report books.

14. POLICE CADET

14.1 Mdm Yvette Chan was appointed as the school’s female Police Cadet Teacher in June 2014.

14.2 Dr Chong Ah Fok attended a shooting training for Guru-Guru Pegawas Pasukan Kadet Polis Diraja Brunei at Padang Tembak, Jalan Aman, Muara on 20 & 21 May.

14.3 Alleyana Edanna Anak Bala of Yr 10Y joined the program Lawatan National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) Reepublik Singapura ke Pasukan Kadet Polis diraja Brunei Sekolah-Sekolah Menengah dan Maktab Negara Brunei Darussalam from 26 till 30 May 2014.

14.4 Alleyana Edanna Anak Bala represented Brunei in the National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) Reepublik Singapura from 17 to 21 November, 2014. 19 police cadet students + 2 teachers-in-charge went on this visit.

15. FACILITIES

15.1 Extended School Hours

In 2015, school hours for the Upper Secondary (Yr 9 – Yr 11) will be extended to 2.00 pm. for 3 days – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for PoA, English Literature, Computer Studies, Geography, History and Maths .

15.2 Kindergarten Library

Floppy’s Phonics fictions and non-fictions from Oxford Reading Tree for the Kindergarten library were purchased using part of the money donated by Dr Hilda Ho and our library fund. The Readers are fully decodable with step and step progression. They are ideal for extra practice or reinforcement alongside the Jolly Phonics teaching programme. The Kg pupils are encouraged to borrow books home to read according to their level and pace. We hope with this library of books at every stage, there is something for every child to enjoy and this should help to cultivate a lifelong love for reading.

15.3 Grammar Cubes and WallBooks Workshop

Grammar Cubes and Wall books were bought from Cristine of Engaged Minds on 2 May 2014 and a workshop for the use of the cubes was conducted by Cristine for all the English Language teachers in the school.

15.4 Subject Teaching for K3 Teachers

For 2015, subject teaching will be introduced in Kg 3.

16. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND HEALTH PROMOTING

16.1 Health Survey

A Health Survey was conducted by the Ministry of Health for students from Yr 8Y, Yr 10G and Yr 11E on 10 March.

16.2 Pemberian Vaksinasi Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)

Female students from Yr 7, Yr 10E and Yr 11 received their 1st dose of injection on 16 January and 2nd dose on 18 February.

16.3 The Green Wave

It was a project by the Forestry Department to plant more trees. The school was asked to send a teachers and 2 students to the Trees Planting Ceremony at Taman Refreasi Hutan Berakas on 22 May at 9.30 am. The school had another project in the school involving the Yr 7 & 8 students at 10 am on the same day. Pictures taken were uploaded to the Green Wave website.

16.4 Pokok Kayu Ara Outside the Kindergarten Playground

Jabatan Alam Sekitar, Taman abd Rekreasi, Kementerian Pembangunan came to cut down the Pokok Kayu Aru outside the Kindergarten Playground after we wrote to them to request them to do so. They came during the school holiday to cut the trees and cleared the area outside the playground making it shiny and bright.

Thereafter, pupils created posters and leaflets on water conservation and displayed them in the classrooms and homes. 17. OTHERS

17.1 Program Pembangunan Kapasiti Bagi Pegawai-Pegawai Berjijazah Yang Baru Berkhidmat Di RTB

Dr Chong Ah Fok (DP) was invited by the Training Centre, RTB to train/lecture 22 new RTB Grade B2 & above officers (graduates) – to expose them to basic skill in writings scripts (documentary, drama, creative writing) for Radio & TV on 3 & 4 June.

18. CONCLUDING REMARKS

Chong Tze Wei and Kuan Jun Wei lead the cohort by scoring 6A* and 2A2 in the 8 subjects they took. Lim Ren Zhi led his class of express students by scoring 6A* and 2B3s. Both the normal pure science and the express classes obtained a 100% passes. The express class outshone by obtaining at least credits for all subjects.

On the whole, St Andrew’s School has done well with 93 students out of 123 obtaining at a 5”O” level passes. The school accredited the good results to the diligence of the students, the dedicated commitment andf hard work of the teachers and the much needed co-operation from the parents.

Congratulations to all our achievers.  Below is a summarized list of achievements:

1. Cambridge Outstanding Achiever Awards

a) Best Across Seven Cambridge O Levels

2. Anugerah Pelajar Cemerlang Sekolah-Sekolah Rendah dan Menengah Swasta Senegara Kementerian Pendidikan NBD 2012 at UBD.

a) 39 5A students from Yr 6 2012  received their awards on 4 July at UBD.
b) 18 students from Yr 11 2012 received their awards on 4 July.
(8 O levels with at least 2A*).

3. Commonwealth Essay Writing Competition 2013 – Women in Leadership

Tang Sze Lin of Yr 11G was the winner of the 15-17 age group category in “Women in Leadership Essay Writing” organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat’s 10th Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting (10WAMM). She attended the meeting/prize presentation held from 17 – 19 June 2013 at Dhaka, Bangladesh with all expenses paid for by the Commonwealth Secretariat.

4. Princess Rashidah Young Nature Scientist Award (PRYNSA) 2012

SAS emerged as the 2nd runner-up in the PRYNSA 2012 competition. The prize presentation was held on 22 April 2013 at the Empire Hotel & Country Club. The students and supervising teachers received trophies, certificates, book vouchers, a laptop and a cash prize of $2,000.

The students were Haziqah binti Omar Ali, Koh Wan Chin, Tang Sze Lin, Chong Tze Wei, Ting Kuan Ning, Wayne Jason Jong, Tay Kin Guan & Lew Kid Teck (all from Yr 11G).  The teachers-in-charge were Mrs Lorene Chin and Mrs Jishamol.

Christine Wong Vui San of Yr 8B was selected to represent Brunei in athletics and Lydia Hii of Yr 11E in table Tennis at Hanoi, Vietnam from 22 June to 30 June.

7. U-12 Junior Athletics Meet for Primary Schools, 2013 (Brunei Zone 1)

It was organized by Co-curriculum Dept for both government & private schools in Brunei Zone 1 on Sunday 9 June 2013.

St Georges’ School hosted the Meet. 16 schools participated. We sent a total of 20 students (11 boys & 9 girls) and bagged 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.

8. Tap Mentor Perancangan Kewangan

It was organized by TAP. Its aim is to encourage saving and spending wisely and to educate the participants on financial planning.
Our team consists of Jesy Lasari (Yr 9B), Qudsiyah Tassim (Yr 11G), Rachelia A Jumanti & Shiobhan Low Xi Wen (Y 11E). It was divided into 3 rounds:

a) Debate (40%) held on 23 March at the Min of Finance. SAS beat SM PJN Hj Abu Bakar, KB (2 – 1). Jesy Lasari was voted best speaker for that round.
b) Financial Explorace (60%) held on 26 March at Taman Jubli. SAS emerged as champion winning a cash award of $600.
c) The $ Factor (final round) held on 6 April at RTB. We were the 1st runner-up and received a cash award of $800 and a trophy.
The teacher-in-charge was Mrs Jane Huong and Cikgu Hjh Normah Aziz assisted in
the training in the debate and competition which were conducted in Bahasa Melayu.
